I have a clarinet that was given to me 30 years ago that was used. I played it as a child and my 10 year old is currently learning on it. It is a LaMonte made by Martin Freres. Any idea on age? value? orgin? It also has the word "GRENATEX" on the bell. What is grenatex? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

meaning a stencil. Luckily, you know who made yours - Martin Freres. Do a search here on the BBoard - I know we've got info on Martin Freres hearabouts.

I have a Martin Freres brochure from the early 1950s. This company made only student quality instruments at the time, in several grades. I haven't been able to find any source of dates for the serial numbers.

The Martin Freres LaMonte is most definitely a student-grade clarinet, and "Grenatex" is their trade name for hard rubber (the same stuff most mouthpieces are made from these days).

Old thread but I just had to post..
The La Monte Grenatex is, according to Martin Freres, an intermediate horn and was made by them. It is not a stencil as someone stated.
I have a La Monte Series 1 that is an entry level pro horn, as well as a Series 2 that is considered an intermediate

Looking at the current Martin Freres web site, it seems they're wont to "gild the lily" regarding the vintage Martin Freres instruments.
Trade advertising shows that by 1955, the La Monte was their entry level model.
