Hi all,
I noticed that my R13 has a plastic bell the and was wondering if this has been always the case or if it has only been changed recently. I know that it doesn't make any difference to the sound i'm just curious. I brought mine at the start of this year, serial number 523xxx.

You sure it's plastic? Sometimes wood can look so fresh and new it has an almost plastic-like sheen. The used A clarinet I bought two years ago looked like that.l

Although I'm not against plastic bells per se if I bought an R13 with one I'd know that somebody altered it...Ouch!

I brought it new but it is 6 months old now. The bell really does seem like it's plastic. I dunno if its just a different type of wood or something like that.

R-13s do not have plastic bells -- not now, not ever. Does it have any evidence of wood grain? If not, it could be a Greenline bell, although how it got on the instrument if the rest of the horn is regular Grenadilla would be a mystery (switched at the store, perhaps?).

I think I'd take it back for examination. If it is a Greenline then someone else is getting ripped. If it's plastic....they you are.

The R13 does not come with a plastic bell. Did you purchase the instrument new? You need to have someone take a look at it if you are not sure and get a wooden bell if it turns out that you ahave a plastic one as a replacement.
