Allegro is the intermediate line of instruments for Yamaha. The prices for some of the instruments are extremely competitive, depending on where you can find them. I've only played on a clarinet.
I thought the clarinet played pretty well. I really can't give a good comparison to anything else since I haven't play tested anything side by side.

I've play-tested several for a dealer friend and never found one I thought had very good intonation. And, they really are an intermediate instrument, not a pro instrument. He always offered them to me at a very good price, but I've always chosen something else over them because of the sound of the instrument.

They look pretty and have a nice case--but that's about where they end.

I purchased a couple of Leblanc Esprits on that particular occasion, and a couple of Buffet R-13s. The tuning on the Esprits I purchased was excellent, although the tone of the Buffet R-13 was superior The difference was the price on the R-13 was a bit high for some students to afford, so I wanted to make a lesser priced instrument available. But, if given a choice and the money--the Buffet R-13 is a great instrument and you can eliminate the intermediate level of purchases. Actually, a good beginner instrument is fine until you know you want to do some more serious work on the clarinet--then I recommend you buy as good an instrument as you can afford and stick with it. You can spend a lot more money, but the R-13 is a good solid work horse of an instrument that works with band and orchestra.
