Looking for Instructor in Washington D.C. Area

Hello all,

This is my first post to the board, although I've been lurking and combing the archives for several days. And I have to say I'm impressed with the strong sense of community and the ammount help and information that's on tap. As a complete newcomer to the clarinet, I don't think I could've found a better resource.

Now, on to my question.

I've just taken up the clarinet after being away from any kind of musical training for several years. Although music has always been an important part of my life (I played the trombone through college), it occurred to me recently that, although satisfying, listening to music just isn't the same as making it. So, last week, I rented a Buffet B12.

I think I'm getting a decent tone from the horn and I've been progressing quickly enough through my Rubank, but I'm at a point where I have a lot of questions about fingering, embouchure, and the general mechanics of playing and of the clarinet itself. In short, I need private lessons. So, if anyone has contact information or recommendations for instructors in Washington, D.C., please don't hesitate to reply here or to my email address. My preference would be to work with someone who has experience or prefers working with beginning adult students.

My apologies if I haven't posted this in the correct forum.

Best,

Chris

I know an excellent clarinet player in the D.C. area. I just don't know if he gives lessons or is interested in doing so. Then again, he might know somebody else who does give lessons.

Thanks, Brian. I don't know how I missed that thread. All of my searches weren't very successful. But again, thanks. I'll definitely follow the advice of another poster and "start from the top."

Of course, if anyone knows of someone specifically who is taking on new students, please drop me a line. I'm really eager to get started.

Chris

I'm at the University of Maryland, and I know of some people that may give lessons! Send me an email. :)

I live in Northern Va. so if you live around this area, drop me an email and I can give you a list of the teachers that I know that are great in this area. This is such a large area that your location could help narrow down the list. Between contra girl and I, we have the mid atlantic covered for you:)

Merlin is great if you can get him for your level.

write me at music@ mytempo.com (no space after @) and I can give you a name/e-mail for another really good teacher in the Silver Spring area who does teach younger students if you still need it.
