mouthpiece modifications

I once read that you can make a mouthpiece play with a little brighter tone and perhaps sharper by taking beeswax and building up the baffle a bit. I did this recently because I had a problem with A through C in the upper register being flat. The modified mouthpiece plays close enough to in tune. It is a little brighter than I would like over the rest of the range, but OK.

Any suggestions for what types of mouthpiece modifications cure what types of problems?

You are correct, Jim, I believe the mp baffle modifications are common practice for sax mps. I had an old Martin bari sax mp, where I removed the "filling" making it [back] into a "mellow". The MP Work Yahoo Group frequently discusses this, likely a good reference "point" . Having my copy of the ICA Journal May/June 1994 open to Avrahm Galper's discussion of his Register Vent Tube [pg 36, I noticed that he also has an ad entitled "Clarinet Tone Enhancer, $4.50 per set, Mharva Music " [with address], and a side view, looking like a baffle addition. Jim - I should have heeded my own warning, "Engage Brain before Opening Mouth", BUT, I finally read A G' s fine print listing US Patent 5,033,350, which has several older Refs Cited, so I copied off ---350 and Dossekker 4,517,875 [maybe of interest?]. Interesting !! Don
