 "Blue Book" for used instruments
Author: Carol Dutcher

Did I read it here? Or does this exist only in my vivid imagination. I thought I read that there is a blue book for instruments, like there is for cars, and you can look up and see what an instrument might be worth. I am looking to find out about a beatiful set of classic Ludwig drums. I know I could call a store, but, I am wondering if this book actually exists.

"...beautiful set of classic Ludwig drums..."

If the previous owner was Richard Starkey from Liverpool, I'd say you've really got something ...GBK

Sure, that blue book exists. Pawn shops rely on them. I don't know how the prices are determined, but I bet they are more reliable than the answer you'd get from a music store clerk. Unless, of course, that music shop was referring to their blue book.

If you ask nicely, a pawn shop clerk may even let you look up your drums in his book. It has happened to me.

Good luck,
Ray

Hi,

Looks like I may have beat GBK to this source.

Carol, don't you think you're taking this 'doubling thing' a bit TOO far?

Orion blue book is on line. You have to pay for the service.

Hi,

I just won a 1996 Orion Blue Book for Guitars & Musical Instruments (funny, I always thought of guitars as musical isntruments) one eBay for about $7. Although this is a bit old, I sure I can extrapolate some relatively accurate numbers for current sales.

I'm anxious to know how different serial numbers and models are handled. I'll report back.
