My son is searching for an older R-13. Any suggestions or does anyone have one for sale? Thanks...KJ

There's this website called eBay....you'll find R13s on it most every day.

Try to get a trial period and have your son's private teacher (or pay a local pro) try out the instrument before you are committed to buying it. If looking on eBay this is even more important, and personally I would pay the extra money to use an esrow service if the buyer allows this, and wouldn't deal with a seller who didn't. I play R-13s and they can be great instruments, as good as it gets, but they can also be not so great (like anything with alot of handwork). Play it safe by having someone really good help you choose, for your peace of mind if for nothing else. If you have to pay a little more to get a really good instrument its worth it in the long run- the instrument is the players voice.

There's a '65 R13 that looks to be in excellent condition on Ebay at the moment; if I remember correctly, the price was at about 1000$... that era would be a good one to look for, though.

My R-13 was made in '64 and I love it. I can vouch for the era....Great clarinets!

There are several R-13s listed in the classifieds here on the clarinet pages. Click onto the classifieds and check them out. I've found that most of the people who advertise on Sneezy's pages are real players and pretty nice people. Ask a few questions and ask for some photos. Although it's been a while since I posted on this website, I've bought and sold a number of R-13s in my time and have met some pretty good players with nice instruments. They'll usually give you the straight song about things.

Lee, you can always have the same thumb rest added to your 1967 R-13. The parts are available. Take it to the technician who did the overhaul.
