 Rovner ligature

One problem with Rovner ligature is a regular cap doesn't fit on it, and the cap that comes with it is too big to fit to a regular case.
Just by accident I’ve found out that if you use a alto clarinet/sax rovner on a Bb clarinet, its ends comes closer together, and the cap fits much better.

The tech of the clarinet shop said it's okay to close the case with the cap+ ligature put on the mouthpiece. I first couldn't believe her, but indeed it didn't seem to affect anything and the case can close easily.

I find that the Rover ligature muffles my sound a bit. Does anyone else fine that?

I've noticed the same thing. My rovner sounds nice when playing low and quiet, but in the upper register and at greater dynamic levels it tends to be very stuffy and bland sounding and won't project over the ensemble for solos and melodic parts. The ED model projects better but creates a lot of resistance in the extreme ends of the instrument (not that it makes much difference on clarinet, but on a saxophone it makes it just about impossible to play low and soft without cracking). The tone is still slightly stuffy and projection is not as good as a metal lig and fast articulations are more difficult, especially in the high register. The rovner light is my favorite, as it does not seem to hurt projection or atriculation at all, hover it doesn't darken the tone to the extent of the other two models which is why you'd use it to begin with. The BG's are, at least for my personal taste and concept of the clarinet sound, much better.
