I know some of you double on flutes so I was hoping someone could help me, or at least direct me to somewhere that could help me.
What do you think about Emerson flutes? I haven't heard much about them so I would like some reviews before I buy their product.
I was looking at getting the Model EF6, do you know anything about this particular model?

It all depends on how much money you want to put into it and what characteristics you seek. I personally play an Emerson Boston Legacy, which is a very competent mid-level instrument. But, it could never compete with the better Altus, Muramatsu, Brannen, and other custom marques.
You would be well-advised to find a flute board and post your question. Very few here (other than guys like John Moses) have the depth of experience on the flute to give you that kind of purchase guidance.

Hi Melissa,
I double on flute and recently picked up, on eBay, a used Buffet 227 Symphony which has the Cooper scale. It is open hole, has a low B foot, and a gizmo key.
For what I paid (about the same as a used intermedaite-level clarinet), I have all the flute I am going to need for a long time. Prior to that, I had an open-hole student model King - from a long time ago. My "new" flute is head and shoulders above the old one.
I have the very best sax and clarinet equipment but made a conscious decision not to go overboard with the price of a flute. I got, what I think, is a tremendous value. It is all a question of "bang for the buck" with me.

PS I believe in the value of second and third hand instruments (I have a LeBlanc Dynamic 2, a Selmer 9 and 9*, and an L-200 to alternate with my R-13).

I recently took up the flute and asked around and Armstrong was recommended as a student flute. I bought one on ebay for $55 plus shipping, and my teacher says it's a pretty good one. I had also heard that Emerson was good. I'm not good enough yet to judge it.

My first instrument is flute. Of the many flutes (all student models) I have serviced and tested, I have been very disappointed with Emerson compared with Yamaha.
