HI, first let me say I am not a muscian I am a supportive dad of a young lady who wants to be.We have picked up a couple of older instrument and have seen this problem with 2 of them.If you line the bridge up correctly it binds and the keys will not work. However if you offset them they will work.Looking at them closely it would appear to be the lower cork is to thick. Is that possible?I do not have a lot invested in them and will in fact be doing some things to them myself with the help of my wife who does play clarinet.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Shane

Certainly depends on which keys you're talking about. The left pinky C key can bind with the left pinky middle C sharp key sometimes in my experience.

Well, Shane... "Anything's possible"
The bridge between bottom and top ring keys (Brille keys) must be aligned correctly and the cork spacers/silencers must be the right thickness for things to function correctly. If the top (most likely) or bottom (less likely) bridge piece is bent, causing it to bind, you must carefully bend it back where it belongs. Then you can work on the cork (or try different paper thicknesses etc.) spacing.
If you haven't done this sort of thing before, you might do well to ask a local instrument technician to set it right for you - then you can play around with the 'corking'. There can be many other causes for key binding which an experienced tech should be able to spot almost immediately. It's really difficult to diagnose the problem without seeing and touching the instrument.

ok the bridge when aligned causes the D key to stay down and B A G keys are in a bind and do not work correctly. They are tight almost immobile .If you separate the bridge between the left hand and right hand keys it frees them up however you can't use the octave key to get the higher notes. Thanks so much Shane
