The title pretty much says it all... is it possible to get a decent standard double case for under $100? I can't really afford to shell out 200+ for a BAM trekking or xtra light case, as much as I'd like to. WWBW has a woodwind case, a protec case (which is reviewed as being excessively bulky) for reasonable prices. Any other suggestions, or is it really necessary to spend a lot of money on a higher-end case?

There have been recently a double ....and even a triple....case on eBay....or search for the posts on making your own.

yup, go to crappy tire and get a metal brief case for $29. Then get some ~.5" foam and cut it out. Glue the sections together, slap on some velvet, total cost about $40 CDN, I've built two of them. I sent you an email on another subject if you respond I'll send a picture

WWBW has a double case that looks something like a BAM knock off that is pretty cheap. If it is any good, you couldn't go wrong at that price:

One of my students got one of the Woodwind double cases to carry both her Bflat horns. I won't go into the 14-year-old's reasoning behind needing a case for both, but it does seem to be a rather decent double case. The horns sit well and there seems to be an average amount of room for stuff.

I've posted a while ago. I guess it is time to post again. If you want to save some money and have a superb case then just "throw together a case for yourself". Here's how I do it: (Just click on the picture to go to the page which explains it!)

After years of using a Pro tech case I have returned to my original 'Buffet " double case because it is pretty tough!
I hate the whole zipper scene and of course they become useless after time because they never thread right. I like my case to hard and solid...none of this soft zipper stuff anymore...It is a total rip to go with the Pro Tech cases...

Yamaha makes a compact double for about $125 street, but that is about as cheap as they get.
As with all things, you get what you pay for. If you aren't going to go Terry's route and DIY, there are tradeoffs in weight/size, features, price, and of course -- quality. You also need to assess how well your chosen case holds your horns. A bad fit could result in an expensive trip to the repair shop to get your keywork readjusted.
