 Anyone familiar with these colleges?
Author: Bigno16

I am thinking of majoring, or at least minoring, in music and I enjoy it a lot. I know I can never let it not be a part of my life. I'm having a tough time deciding on colleges and everything and I'm not the greatest person at making big decisions. But I've narrowed down a few colleges that look to be good and of interest and I was wondering if anyone had been to them or are familiar with them and could help maybe steer me in the right direction. I live in Brockton, MA. The first 3 are my top choices as of right now.

New York University (NY)
John Hopkins University (MD)
Northeastern University (MA)
University of Massachusetts: Amherst (Kind of more of a back-up)
Miami University: Oxford (OH)

And if anyone could suggest some good ones, that would be of help, too. Thanks!

To add onto Bigno16, does anyone know of any colleges that have a good aviation and a good music program?

Iacuras,

Check my bio on my website and send me an email. I am a professor with the Aviation Institue at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. I can help you.

Bigno16.

Miami of Ohio is a very fine schools. A good, state university music program. Compares well to Ball State, BGSU, Ohio University, Kent State, and similar schools in the mid-west. I happen to believe that this type school gives a well balanced education and still has a very good music program particularly if you are interested in music education or want to pursue another major and still play in one of the bands.

Nebraska-Omaha might be a good choice, as it's also not far from Nebraska-Lincoln where Dr. Diane Cawein Barger runs a top clarinet program. Hank is definitely da man to give you all the details you need.

Other good aviation schools are the U. of North Dakota at Grand Forks and Purdue U. in Indiana. And there's always Embry-Riddle, but I don't even think they know which end of the clarinet you put the avgas in.

I'm from MA and would recommend U Mass Amherst for someone who wants to do music and/or another major, but not Northeastern. It is a very good school but not known for its music program - it depends on how much you want from the music side of things. What would you do with music if you majored in it? Maybe you should pursue that end of things. I majored in music because I loved to play the clarinet, and kind of ended up in music ed by default. I am a music teacher now, and am very happy doing so.
