Visiting Wiener Music on Long Island
Author: allencole
Date:   2004-08-24 07:12

I am in need of some new clarinets and am planning to visit Fred Wiener in the next week or two. Looks like Amtrak and LIRR can get me to Mineola, but I can't find any budget motels online.

Does anyone here have experience in that area, who could recommend someplace--near to Wieners?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know the area at all but have talked to Fred Weiner at a Clarinet Festival. He's such a nice guy. Why not ask him for some information?

I've talked to Mark a couple of times, and will definitely ask him when I finalize my appointment. They do seem to be nice folks there.

At the risk of awakening GBK:

Mister Cole, you are Long Island-bound.
To see if great horns can be found.
When you give them a blow,
What we all want to know:
Is there really a Long Island "Sound"?

Since I live in the NYC metro area, I paid them a visit last year to pick up various items after having checked via their web site for availability and price (I did not try out any new clarinets). One thing to be mindful of is that the store name is not Wiener Music. As it is a rather typical music shop on a block lined with other shops, I drove right past them. Better to locate by the street address.

Once I found them, everything was exactly as promised when I picked up the order.

To Todd W:

Ok - you asked for it -

Weiner Music

The best horns are found at Fred Weiner,
None that are cheaper or much cleaner.
My friend recently came,
Bought a sax - guess what name?
Then flew home to old Pasadena ...GBK

Long Island

The beach on the Sound I will stroll,
But our streets are just out of control.
I once saw a car,
Acting really bizarre.
The driver? Our own Billy Joel. ...GBK

A drive up to old NYC
Is like being skinned alive--but that's me
By train I would go,
But Penn Station's below
An armed camp for this year's GOP

These poem thing is really lame.

Anyway, I believe Weiner music is called Papa's Music. Also it might not be that easy to just take the LIRR. I went to the store last year and I don't think the LIRR station in Mineola is very close to the store. You'll have to take the bus also. The people there are very nice.

Good Times!

Not true...

From the LIRR stop in Mineola, you can walk to the store. It takes about 15 minutes.

After you get off the train, go north on Mineola Blvd. until you reach Jericho Turnpike. (there is a Fleet Bank on the corner). Make a right on Jericho Turnpike and Weiner Music is at 168 Jericho Turnpike, on the left side of the street - across from the Chamber of Commerce.

The storefront says Papa's Music, but the mail order name is Weiner Music.

Funny, no one else is complaining ...GBK

I've decided to drive because I'm taking a friend along to help in the selection process, but if I were by myself--and Penn Station wasn't the central focus of Homeland Security--I'd definitely let Amtrak and LIRR do the driving.

Still up for suggestions on budget motels, but will check with the folks at Wiener's tomorrow as well.

That "These poem thing is really lame"
May be true, and I'm partly to blame
But I'm struck like a hammer
By the nuance of grammar
From a scholar I don't need to name <g>

Weiner Music top notch. I just got my R-13 A from them. They sent me three and they were in perfect adjustment and they sent me quality instruments, not junk.

I don't know how they do it, they have the best customer service and they have the cheapest prices, isn't it just usually one way or the other?
