I have no problem getting 9 out of 10 Vandy's to work...I simply follow the Opperman reed book and go from there. As to the marking the machine ink may have run out during the pressing of the stamp on the end of the production line....

I have had less success with FOF Gonzalez than Vandorens... I find the Vandoren reeds to have a nice dark sound and last very long with proper break in.
