I ordered 'Sacred Solos' at Clarinetspot.com

As always, with more money spent on delivery cost, I did it again..(after Pino book from amazon.com)

In the description it has 'Holy city' and 'Panis angelicus', which are my favorites, so I didn't hesitate to order...Thought it would be ideal for my monthly performance at my church..

Anybody has this book? Do you like it? Any other suggestions on similar line of scorebooks? Is Clarinetspot.com okay site?
Sorry for many questions. THanks in advance.

Hi, Lucy Lee -

I bought "Hymns For The Master" for one of my beginning students (Student #1), an adult, a few weeks ago. I purchased it in new condition from an eBay vendor at a considerably lower price than Clarinet Spot. Of course they don't show up on eBay frequently so you have to be patient. Anyway, my student has been playing some of the songs, but without the CD accompaniment. At this stage he's intimidated by the full orchestral backup.

My other student - (Student #2)'s Dad bought the same selection, "Hymns For The Master", for him several months ago. He plays from it, with the CD, quite often. He loves playing and the orchestral accompaniment is an additional fun thing to do. (His grandparents are especially impressed... :) )

Last month while visiting our son and his family in Michigan, a very accomplished flutist played a solo number accompanied by a CD for evening church service. While I'm not a big fan of CD accompaniments, to say the least, I did enjoy hearing a nice piece of music played well and the audience (congregation) enjoyed it as well...

If I were to buy more of these for personal (performance) use, I would definitely order it with piano accompaniment... just my personal preference.

I havn't purchased anything from Clarinet Spot but I presume they're okay, their products certainly are. My experience with my students' enjoyment of the product is positive and I would not at this time hesitate to buy other similar items from Clarinet Spot.

Ron b,
Thanks for your advice. Accompaniment with CD is something I never considered either. But your story about the flutist sounds 'why not'.

Why not? No reason not to if you do it well.

It takes a good artist to carry it off well, in my opinion, Lucy. With a live accompanist or a conductor you have some 'give and take' but with a CD... you're "locked in", so to speak and, personally, I'm just not that consistent.

I know... 8[ practice more!!! ]

But I really can't imagine a CD back-up making things any easier -- practice-wise, that is.

In this instance the artist had excellent stage presence, poise, gave a few personable introductory words about the composer etc. and, as I mentioned, she played very well, as though she'd been doing it all her life.
