I've used an SD Systems LCM82 clarinet mic for about 10 years. It's an excellent mic, both for live work and recording. It can, however, be prone to feedback on a noisy stage without a very adept monitor engineer and quality wedges.
Last Friday, the mic inconveniently died on me on a big festival stage - I might be able to get it repaired, but it's a bit doubtful, hence, I'm considering a replacement. It'll either be another LCM82 (which I believe now comes with tone and volume controls) or the AMT version which I've never tried, but which seems considerably cheaper. As I'm based in the UK, it's going to be difficult to try before I buy and I really need something before next Monday, when I've got another festival gig.
Has anyone played on both these mics? What comparisons can you make? How stable is that long arm on the AMT - does it droop after a while? Some publicity shots of the AMT show the top mic only half way up the body - does it extend much further to pick up the throat notes properly? Is the AMT equally prone to feedback on a noisy stage?
All comments gratefully received, but ideally I'm after views from anyone who has tried both mics.
Many thanks.
