I am learning the aforementioned piece with a excellent flutist friend of mine. All my flutists friends pretend that this piece was originally composed for two flutes. However, it seems that Professor Lurie features promimently in the history of the piece.
Does anybody know for sure whether the original version of the piece is for two flutes, or for a flute/clarinet combination?
I cannot find the answer of my question on this clarinet web site.
Thank you very much! Santé!

All I know is that in _my_ copy of the sheet music (not a photocopy) it does mention that it was _originally_ composed for 2 flutes. Then it does say that Mitchell Lurie was involved in the premiere of the flute/clarinet version.
I know nothing more.

The CD booklet (Robert Muczynski: Complete Works for Flute, Naxos) says nothing about the piece being written for two flutes originally. Do you have a particular reason to think it was written for 2 flutes? I would assume (unless there is info to the contrary) that is has always been for flute/clarinet.

Ok...so I did misspeak.
I just dug out my copy and it says: "This work is also available in a version for two flutes, HL50291720."
I can't remember where I read that the 2 flute version came first.
