At around 00:30 GMT the server will be down for an hour or two so I can replace a failed disk in the RAID array.

If it's a RAID everthing is supposed to be in cartridges so when you hot swap nobody notices. Good luck, don't reverse the cables.

A great teacher gives you answers to questions
you don't even know you should ask.

Bill,
I think Mark has done this before so there is no need to worry.
Regards,
Hans

RAID has nothing to do with cartridges or hot-swapping, though often SCSI devices in RAID configurations are both hot-swappable and in cartridges.

The devices here are neither cartridge based nor hot swappable.

Glad to hear that you were doing work on this website, since I was confused when it didn't come up. And now I understand why www.clarinetfest.org wasn't working either, as now it's turned over to next year's info for Tokyo. I have to stop refering people to that site since it's no longer what it used to be, LOL.

I'm sorry our paths didn't cross last week Mark. I was looking at everyone's nametags and never found you. :(

The same server that handles this site handles www.clarinetfest.org (and the sites of many of the sponsors here - there are both individual sponsors and hosted sponsors, and the money that's collected is one of the ways I keep everything humming) so when this site has to go down for maintenance, about 30 other sites go down ...

Did you see a guy 5' 2", balding, with reading glasses around his neck, khaki pants & sneakers?

Bill,

There is a great difference between RAID and hot-swappable harddisk….but if you would like to know how it works, just send me a email. I will provide you will all the answers..

Mark and GBK,

Keep up the good work! I really want to thank you both (and of course the sponsors) for providing/maintaining this board. It contains lots of useful information!

Best regards,

Eddy

LMAO, I dunno! I don't remember seeing too many guys exactly my height! ;)

For 1,000 of us total, I kept seeing the same 20 faces popping up all week long---most of whom I didn't even know, but their faces were easy for me to remember for some reason.

Did you play in the ICA choir? I played 2nd part, third row back.

I've been known to call clarinet choirs "the spawn of the devil" and "accordions on steroids", but after hearing the Japanese choir on Saturday I've had to eat my words ...

I'll bet money you didn't hear the Marine Band choir on Sunday then, did ya? :p They were just in-freakin-credible.

PS I missed the Japanese choir.

Mark,

Put up your donation link again. I pony up a little more money to help defray the cost of your hard drive.

It'll be up next year; I bank the money every year to handle the fixed costs and expected problems during the year. But thanks anyway!
