In the german internet site, Selmer announcves a new clarinet. Did someone play it or does someone know something about this instrument?(Saint Louis Anniversary clarinet)?

I took a quick look, couldn't find St. Louis, but did find the "English Version" "click" which makes my non-French readable. Interesting, Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

I had an oppotunity of trying it at Frankfurt fair. It sounds just a bit jazzy. I do not know whether they made a bore change or is it because of the metal resonators on the lower joint pads, or something else.
I do not know if it will be long in production, or will they develop it further, but it is not far in tone from Artys, and signature sounds better to me.

Just yesterday, I received a promotional flyer about the new "Saint Louis" model Selmer Anniversary model clarinets. Apparently, only 100 of these will be produced in both Bb and A models. It is celebrating the gold medal that was awarded to the Selmer clarinets at the 1904 World's Fair that was held in St. Louis. You can read more about it by going to the link below.

I got the Saint Louis flyer too... It threw me off a bit that they would limit production if it is such an "improved" model. Sounds like a sales gimmick to me. IMHO.

The case looks cooler than the clarinets, IMHO...

Interesting that it is not mentioned in the French Selmer site in English.

Also interesting that timber aged for (only) three years is somthing now worth mentioning as a plus. How long is the rest aged? No wonder splits are common.

It is not such a improved model. They just want to celebrate 100 years of production. Maybe it is worth investing just because of limited production?!

The St. Louis Anniversary Clarinet is simply what it states it is - a model that commemorates Selmer Paris' 100 years of clarinet manufacturing. This instrument has the same basic bore dimension of the Odyssee/Artys, comes standard with silver plated keys, left hand Eb key, and an adjustable thumb rest. It does have a "special" insignia and two tone (silver/gold plated) joint rings. Basically it is finished differently than the Artys/Odyssee. Selmer had 4 of the instruments (2 A and 2 Bb) at ClariFest. I played the Bb and it has a nice sound. However, I chose to buy a Recital instead.

One last item on the St. Louis model. They were selling this model at the ClarinetFest for about $2,000.

Thomas,
I tried a St. Louis model a few days ago at ClarinetFest and had my Recital along for comparison. I preferred the Recital over the St. Louis, but your experience may be different.
Regards,
Hans

I also have the flyer, and made some comments above on the Selmer-Conn / Steinway thread. Don

I played the St. Louis the other day... wasn't impressed. From what I hear, it is just the Odessee model with a new name. :-P
