BBC Radio has an extremely interesting program where they give in-depth, hour-long commentaries and audio excerpts/examples explaining the genius behind tons of musical masterpieces. On their website, all the archived shows from over the years are available in their whole for your immediate streaming at no charge. Included are programs about Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, Quintet, Messiaen's Quartet, and several orchestral works with significant clarinet passages. This site has been mentioned some time back, but its been a while, and they've moved their URL recently to this place.

Got to give the Brits there due, the BBC has always been miles ahead of everyone, and North America in general does very little for the arts except the CBC, PBS, and a handful of classical music radio stations we are heading to a Brainless society at a record pace.

TKS, Kevin, AGREED, DLD, I used the above link, got the BBC site with all of it's variety and listened to a bit of radio 3 [I believe] . Its great so far, much like WQXR when our local FM-classic goes to NPR news. Someone will prob. put the link in blue, my only problem is, with audio at high volume, when an AOL "buddy" comes on or goes off, it "jumps" me [awake?] ! Small problem tho! Don

The first night of the BBC proms concert just ended with Holst's The Planets, shown on BBC 2 - The concerts take place at the massive Royal Albert Hall. It was excellent with great images of the planets rolling across the screen at times. I was thinking how amazing it is that you can see a concert on tv almost every night of the summer. Too bad I'm leaving for NY on Monday! Stay tuned for Sept. 1, I believe, when they'll be doing the Corigliano clarinet concerto - I don't know who'll be the clarinettist. Check out the BBC website! Miles ahead of everyone? I don't think so ... our national broadcaster (ABC or "aunty" as it's referred to here) has a proud heritage of live broadcasts of anything from rock, jazz to classical/opera you name it. In fact according to their statistics, more than 80% of their orchestral broadcasts are Australian orchestras, thank god for Aunty. CBC, BBC and ABC are equally in the same league, in my opinion.
