John Jorgenson has a great new CD, "Franco-American Swing"---mostly Django Reinhardt covers or Django-inspired tunes. He plays the guitar and the incredible clarinet parts! Does anyone know of another player who did this? (Charlie Christian after all, let Benny Goodman do the clarinet solos).

JJ is indeed a fine clarinetist, a surprise to those who know him from the Hellecasters or from his 6 yrs. as Elton John's guitarist. I've seen him twice this year with a new Hot Club style quartet, but this side of him first came to my attention when he did the CD "After You've Gone" in 1989. It has 2 "sides": the first is a Django band featuring his stunning guitar work, the second is a Christian/Goodman band in which he plays clarinet.
The new CD is notable for some lovely arrangements with a string section.

Its amazing to me how he "nails" the Django guitar sound and absolutely wails on the clarinet as well. Who else could do that...mmm...I play guitar and clarinet.....
