Hey there, I'm a curious person.
I think it would be neat for everyone with an older Buffet, whether or not it be an R13 or an E&S or whatever, to perhaps post a picture of your horn and perhaps describe how you came to play this horn, does it have any unique history? things of that nature. I'm curious to see how many of these horns have done amazing things and what they look like after forty or so years of making music. ...maybe this is a bad idea but I think it'd be neat

An interesting idea but a picture may not add to your research.
Yes, I have an old 1930's Buffet-A that was distributed thru
Carl Fisher, NY and is marked LP (low pitch) which is interesting.
I presume A440 was the standard pitch in the '30's. Need help
in this area. My "A" needs a few pads to make it playable. It
has been a number of years since I last played it in an orchestra.
I was born in 1933 and this instrument may be my link to the
past......who knows. What year is your Buffet?

I own a 60 year old R-13. It has a beautiful tone but has fluctuating pitches. Looks like an ordinary clarinet to me. Some of the keys may be shaped different but no odd markings.

Guys great info, the idea is for fellow Buffet players to compare great older horns, pics are great because it shows what kind of care the horn has been through over the years etc. Just explain things like how you got the horn and why you think its the best in the world, things you've accomplished with it stc. Thank ya'll so much. I think this could be alot of fun.

I'm sorry, but the only Buffet Crampon RC I have is just 9 years old, excellent condition.....and sold next month
I could tell you about my Leblanc clarinets.... They're much more interesting, but I've got the feeling that you only have eye for Buffet Crampon clarinets (some people just don't know what they're missing :p)
But if you are interested just ask…. They’re a great peace of history….

Hmm interesting.I have 3 clarinets.1 Bb R13 of the 1994 make, and a pair of Bb/A which the records classify as R16 of 1930/32.I have trouble trying to find out where to buy the donut ring pads.

I can just hear it now:
Hey Steve, what are you playing?
Steve: Buffet R-13
Hey Jim, what are you playing?
Jim: Buffet R-13
Hey BobD, what are you playing?
BobD: J.Gutowski R-13
Somehow it doesn't sound right...GBK

I'll try to attach a picture of my 1965 Bb R13. I have played it continuously through college and a semi-pro career of orchestra playing. I now play in various orchestras in the Portland, OR area. This horn came by way of a friend of my college professor at the Univ. of Colorado. This friend was Charles Bay, who did his special tweeking to improve the intonation. I few years ago I got the idea I should be playing a new horn, but after trying many, I knew I would have a hard time finding one to match what I had. So, I sent it to Naylor's (Woodwind.org sponsor) to have it oil bathed and redone. It was like a new horn again! The wood had dryed so much it had lost its shape and intonation. Naylor's process renewed it.
When I went to LA to buy a new A clarinet, I looked all over and was frustrated to play about 20 horns that either played in tune and sounded bad, or sounded great but played out of tune. I wound up with Charles Bay again, who sold me a Patricula A he had tweeked a lot. He provided me with one of his mouthpieces, too, and that was a good thing for my playing. I guess this turns out to be a Charles Bay story in many ways.
Just for fun I put in a picture of a waterfall from the Columbia River Gorge close by my home of Vancouver, WA.
