I was wondering what Heim pieces are good/fun to play? It couls be concerning clarinet choir music, solo, duet... whatever.

I know he used to the be the teacher here at UMD, and I have been emailing him asking him a bunch of questions. :)

Thanks,
CG

How about Celebration Suite for Clarinet Quartet? It is published by Kendor, and I think it is graded at level 4.

I recall playing a piece called "Canzona" or something to that effect, written for clarinet choir by Dr. Heim, which was quite good. I even have a recording at home with a European clarinet choir playing it. I played in his choir while an undergrad at UMd back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, so naturally we played quite a few of his works! For the most part I enjoyed hearing his compositions, and they were always fun to play.

Dinosaurs, eh. Well, sonny-boy, I was here when TRILOBITES and BLUE-GREEN ALGAE ruled the world.

The "Praeludium and Canzona" is a great original work for clarinet choir. I contacted Norman Heim, trying to get a copy of "Introduction and Concertante" for bass clarinet and clarinet choir(I got inspired after hearing Jan Guns soloing on the Walter Boeykens clarinet choir CD). He directed me to a Mr. Johnston (can't remember his first name at the moment) who taught clarinet and was responsible for Heim's catalog of great clarinet music contributed to Shenandoah University. Mr. Johnston told me that the "Introduction and Concertante" was at the time only available to Shenandoah students and only for study purposes, but that they might try to republish it some time in the future. Perhaps if more folks showed interest, they might try to republish it.
