 Chadash/Hill mouthpiece blanks

First of all, I have the upmost respect for the work that Guy Chadash has done for the clarinet. However, his new clarinet blanks do not seem to be getting that much attention from the well established mouthpiece refacers. In previous posts I've noticed that some of you out there have tried and purchased these mps with success (the nps that Mr. Hill has finished), but if these blanks are so "outstanding quality material" why aren't they getting interests from the well established mp makers, ie. Hawkins, Fobes, Smith, and etc. I would like to get some feedback regarding this issue.

Good Times!

Lee Livingood is now making his version of the ched. on CH blanks.

His Kaspar version is, however, on zinner blank.

I have tried both of his offerings, and the latter is more expensive.

Could the cost of the blank be a factor??

Glotin is selling their blanks. It's pretty good publicity right there.
Unfortunately at 300$ a piece it's a bit steep!

You might want to ask Clark or Greg or the others directly why they choose the blanks they work. They are all tremendously articulate on the matter and have well reasoned preferences. I think it is a relatively recent phenomenon that others are starting to work the Chadash blanks. The relationship with Glotin went somewhat sour and now Guy and Chris are looking for other venues to market the blanks. Lee L. is doing his thing, and Guy has spoken to Brad Behn about something similar. I imagine as time passes more of the usual suspects will be doing custom work with the blank.

Alseq,

Well, what do you think about the quality of the blank itself? It seems that Zinner blanks have proven itself as a quality blank with many of the well established mp makers using them, so how did it compare to the Chadash blanks?

Good Times!

Some Zinner Bb blanks that I used seemed to be a little low in pitch although the material appears to be superior. I even shortened a few of them to bring them up a little. A couple of Eb blanks seemed to be high in pitch but I don't have much experience with them.

Clarinetfreak,

To answer the question that you directed to me: The Chadash Hill ones I tried are very good. The material is good.

To elaborate:

My C-H mpx came directly from Chris Hill (one of them in person). They are very good and produce a colorful *lively* sound (I will NOT use the B-ig-t word) and the facings were fairly good for me (close tip, but perhaps a bit shorter in the facing than I have come to like---chris would likely redo it if I asked, as he is a very personable and talented man).

I was not enamored of the Zinner stuff that much until I tried the Livingood kaspar model, which I like.
Lee Livingood sent me his C-H/Ched. model and also a Zinner-based Kaspar model.
Keep this in mind: His C-H blank is made specifically to his measurements (personal communication).

Now what IF Lee made his Kaspar model on C-H material?? That would be a true test.

All that aside, my favorite mpx is still an eclectic brand that came with a old "for parts" clarinet that Terry Guidetti faced for me.

Hope that answers your question.
A.S.
