Does anyone know of any Bb clarinet quartets or trios that were originally written for that instrumentation? If not, what are the best arrangements? We would like to play maybe some Eb but we want to keep from Bass and Alto stuff. Thanks

I have Bagatelle, and Caprice for Clarinets by Clare Grundman. Bagatelle is four Bbs and Caprice can be four Bbs, or third and fourth alternates-alto and bass. Let us not forget Clarinet Polka. A piece called Fantasia (nothing to do with either movie) by Paul Harvey, a challenging but lovley piece called French Suite by Yvonne Desportes, Petit Quartet by W.A.Crosse, Pollywog's Lake Talk by Barry Ulman, and the list goes on. And then there are numerous arrangements for quartet in various configurations. I even have an arrangement of that trumpet favourite-The Carnival of Venice, Overture to the Barber of Seville, Clair de Lune, Golliwogg's Cake Walk (goes well with Pollywog) Stars and Stripes, and that list also goes on. If you have the resources, look in the clarinet quartet section of sheet music in your music store. There is lots of it out there. Happy quarteting!

Ken's list is pretty extensive. Just be careful-you are specifically looking for (4) Bb clarinet parts. Some of the quartets, like the Quartet by Paul Harvey and the Divertimento by Uhl are written for (3) Bb's and (1) Bass Clarinet.
Some months ago, I tried to purchase the Licorice-Stick Suite but was told by the folks at Luyben Music that it is out of print.

--good catch, including a full presentation we basically have 4 1-hour sets to draw from. Yes, we have a chair that doubles on bass but the parts can be acceptably covered on regular Bb. And, our program is obviously light and personalized toward casual audiences and environments such as background dinner music, retirement homes and grade school kids for educational-show and tells. v/r Ken

There are a number of TRIOs by Mozart and Handel available, and a beautiful Adagio [K # unknown, Help,please] in Clarinet Sessions, also, I believe, there is a Quartet or so. Some "modern day" composers often discuss compositions/instrumentation on the "www. bass-clarinet@yahoogroups.com" site , and might "custom-write" on request ! Don
