Hi-
I've always heard about the elusive Kaspar ligatures, but I've never seen one before. Are they metal? Material? What's so special about them? Does Anyone have one?

Since the Kaspar ligature is not too easy to find, if you want to see one, find a copy of Wm Stubbins' book The Art of Clarinetistry ( a book not so easy to find in itself.)
Page 96 illustrates a clarinet mouthpiece with a string ligature and with a metal ligature...the metal one in a Kaspar ligature. Russ Dagon, recently retired from the Milwaukee Symphony and clarinet professor at Northwestern, used one and looked for examples for his students. You might contact him concerning any he might have for sale. I had two some time ago, but have sold them. Doug P.

Description of Kaspar ligature: metal, nickel plated,soft brass body. Design has three bands which are over the reed when used as inverted ligature. The middle band has "legs" that reach out to the top and bottom bands making a "Y" design. Those who like this ligature probably do so because the metal is quite soft and flexible, aiding in the reed's response. The ligature was made in both inverted and regular style.
