 Muncy Winds-Nice Job
Author: Buster Brown
Date:   2004-07-01 22:22

I bought a Vintage from Muncy Winds today. I was impressed with them. I went to Boone, NC for the purchase. I assume they are the same to deal with if you have them ship you horns for trial.

First, relative to price, they matched the best prices I could obtain elsewhere. When I informed them that some of their prices were a little high, they fixed them. Incidentally, all the discussion on this board of increasing prices on the Buffets over the past month or so are wrong. When I called for prices to WWBW and others, the prices are the same as they were 6 months ago. You simply have to ask.

Second, I had a 9am appointment with Muncy which I had arranged a few days in advance. All the horns I had asked to try were set out and ready to try. There were multiple models of each horn ready for me.

Third, a technician was there to adjust any problems I might have with the horns. They had all been gone over by him previously. I had him make a couple of minor adjustments.

All the horns were beautiful. Not a flaw that I could see. All in all, I had a great experience with Muncy.

Thanks for the reference. I'll be sure to check with these guys when I decide to get my pro level horn.

Yeah, someone recently noted that the price of Buffets hadn't actually gone up, they just changed their policy on list prices. Calling a dealer and asking them as you did should get you the real price.

It's a butterscotch-flavored alcohol. I've never touched alcohol, myself, but I like the quote.

Then another quote you might like but perhaps in the opposite direction is: "I never inhaled".

Might be good to pour over your old rich Auntie's Vanilla Ice Cream--especially if you are in her will.

I second the experience of Buster Brown. Muncy's was absolutely wonderful to deal with when I was R-13 shopping just over a year ago (drove up from S. Carolina). My "technician" was Phil Muncy, himself. You do have to rent the studio space to try the instruments, but this was neglible and well worth the expert advice.

Phil & Pam Muncy are a class act.

FWIW, not everybody has agreed with comments posted here concerning "increasing prices .... over the past month". As I have posted several times, there has been NO CHANGE in prices.

Enjoy your new Vintage (model) Clarinet. It is a very nice instrument.

about 2-3 years ago i bought a Bb r-13 prestige from the woodwind and brasswind for 3,000$ (3,300$ including tax). a few months ago i saw the price excluding tax for this model is 3,600 (not the list price, the actual price). now the actual price is over 4,100$, excluding tax.

clarnibass, perhaps some of that has to do with inflation? In any case, I'm not too knowledgeable about this subject myself, just repeating what I've heard on the boards.
