Hello
I have a Bb clarinet the manufacture's marks are D. Noblet Paris, the serial # is 2736. Can anyone tell me how old it is? What is the quality of the insturment, it needs cork and pads is it worth fixing it? The wood is in good shape with no cracks and there are no problems with the keys or springs.

D. Noblet used to be the name of the Leblanc company. Around the first part of the 1900s, the Noblet had no heirs so brought Leblanc into the firm and passed the firm on to him. You can read up on the history of Leblanc at

www.gleblanc.com

They made quality instruments and so it is probably worth restoring.

Assuming that serial numbers are consecutive over time across all their models I would guess that your Noblet clarinet is quite old. For example I have a Noblet bought brand new in the middle '50's and the serial number is in the 7,000's. Hope this helps.

Apparently, G. Leblanc Corp. has never released a serial number list. They may give you the information if you contact them.

They've never released one simply because they don't have one for the older instruments. Anything before the mid 1960s is simply an estimate or conjecture.

However the D. Noblet should be early 1900s as Noblets as old as the 1940s are marked simply Noblet.
