Quatuor Op. 16 no. 1

Snooping around the music files on this site, I saw this song, and it's pitched in Clarinet in B. So being the failure at transposition that I am (I've never transposed anything in my life), I just mark everything down a half-step to get it into B-flat soprano, yes?

I presume you mean the quartet by Gopfer?

The German language uses different note spellings than English. What we call B-flat they call B, and what we call be B they call H. I have no idea why this is so! Perhaps someone can enlighten us?

Anyway, this quartet is for clarinet in B-flat. The clarinet part is already transposed, so you can just play it as written. (Presuming we're talking about the same quartet? The strings play in E-flat major, and the B-flat clarinet in F major)

Ah, yes, we're talking about the same one. Thanks much! I can now continue along the path of ignorance and bliss in the area of transposition until I meet with a similar situation that actually requires me to do something.
