Ok, my current project while working with the ICA collection is finding grades for the clarinet choir pieces (You know like grade levels, for example "this is a grade III piece"). I need this information to put on the ICA collection website so people like you have an idea of how hard the music is before you check it out.
Our database doesn't have the grades to all of the pieces! Right now I am going through all of the clarinet choir music and looking at the scores to see if it is written on the score, but this isn't the case for all of the pieces.
How can you help, you ask? Well, my next task is to launch a full investigation on finding the grade methods of each piece that doesn't have one written on it. Maybe one of you has a web page in mind that could have the information?
I am going to check the publisher sites, and maybe some music retailer sites. A lot of the music that doesn't have grades on it are Leblanc, Southern Music Co, and a couple foreign companies, etc...
Maybe someone has another idea that could make this easier? Hehe.

Perhaps you could let us know what pieces you have that are ungraded, and if we've played them we could let you know what we think it should be.
It's odd - a few pieces that are graded as difficult, aren't.

Can you cross reference with publishers or perhaps state adopeted prescribed music lists? I know that Texas has a Prescribed Music List (PML) that you may be able to get some titles. I don't know how extensive the clarinet choir list is, but it may be of some help.
Southern Music is in San Antonio. Perhaps there might be someone there that could be of assistance if you faxed them the titles.

The NYSSMA manual (New York) has 4 pages of clarinet choir music listed from Level I to Level VI.
Other state music associations would have similar manuals.
New York uses Level VI as their most difficult ranking. Some states, however, may use a grading system with Level V or Level VII as their highest ranking ...GBK (NYSSMA adjudicator)

I have had some success finding the grades on retail sites (sheetmusicplus.com, etc) and some of them had the grades posted on their pages.
I am coming across a lot of LeBlanc music that has been republished by Southern Music Co, which I find interesting. The copies we have in the ICA are older editions of the music (50's and 60's) and I assume that Southern is gobbling up the rights to publish this music currently.
So, I have about 55 scores that I cannot find grades to.
GBK has a good suggestion. Does anyone know if such a manual is on-line somewhere?

I think it's wonderful you are adding this info. A suggestion to further complicate what you are doing - uniformly indicate whether the score is for A, not Bb, clarinet. Many pieces are not presently so described.

We do keep that in our database. There is a section that says "instrumentation" where we use our abbreviations for each instrument. Bb is just cl, but if it was an A it would be cl-A. Alto is cl-alt, bass is cl-bs... etc etc. But I don't think that info is actually put on the site for ppl to see... hmmm....
