 Evette Buffet Crampon Mouthpiece

Hi,
I'm a clarinetist who's been playing for about five years. I am going to be a junior next year and plan to play in the Minnesota Youth Symphonies and on into college. I need a different mouthpiece for my Evette Buffet Crampon in order to do this well. I have been using the original plastic one. I was trying some out at a local music store last month and could hear quite a difference, but a clarinetist friend suggested I try a post here before I buy anything. The instrument is from 1976, if that is any help. Because I have been borrowing it, I do not know how much longer I will have it. In that case, is there a miracle mouthpiece that would fit well and sound good on this clarinet AND X-future clarinet? Thanks

Pretty much any mouthpiece you pick that sounds great on that clarinet, will probably sound great on ANY clarinet (provided the clarinet itself is good). They are a very universal fit and the projection/articulation/control/flexibility/etc. of the mouthpiece will not change from clarinet to clarinet. Otherwise, do some searches on different mouthpieces.

Popular machined ones (as far as I remember) are the vandoren line, Gigliotti, Pomarico, etc. However many opt for a 'hand-finished' one. Popular ones that will yield TONS of information on the board are Fobes, Grabner, Greg Smith, Hite, Pyne . . . that's all I can think of now.

Good luck. And take your time in selecting. Don't take the FIRST thing that sounds better than your stock mouthpiece. Took me almost two years from upgrading from my Vandoren B45 (which I didn't like too much) to what I have now. Due to various reasons, but I took my time and now I'm very happy. As well as along the way I aquired a VERY strong secondary mouthpiece.
