I'm trying to find a good solo for this years solo & ensemble contest.. I was just curious on what everyones favorite solo that they've played before was. I'm thinking about playing the first movement in the Mozart Concerto.. but i'm not sure yet. I love it because it's so alive and fun! Any suggestions?

If you're up for Klezmer-type music you could try Hora Staccato by Dinicu-Heifetz. It is only a little over 2 minutes long, but it doesn't need to be longer. So far it's been the most enjoyable piece I've played. It is the first and so far only such piece I've learned.
It's very fast so you need to be able to tongue fast (I can't play it faster than about 150-155, but it can go faster if you can double-tongue). I have a Robert Spring CD (Tarantelle), and he plays it at around 165-170. It also helps if you can do circular breathing, but it's not completely necessary. There are certain parts where you can (and should) add special effects like bends and vibrato. It is a very impressive-sounding piece, and the judges will want to get up and dance. I played it at my first music major year at college. Normally I am quite nervous during public performances since last year was the first year I ever did them, but this music is so fun it's impossible to be nervous.
