 Crack Surveillance Regimens

My Buffet R-13 is more than a year old, and fortunately, I've had no cracks. Am I "out of the woods?" Should I check regularly for cracks? What do others do?

Cracks?? Personally, I just swab my instrument after every use, avoid sudden, extreme temperature change, and never worry about them. If one should occure, I will most likely notice, and "deal with it". Until then, its music business as usual. (so far--45 yrs--I've been very lucky)

Agree with William. If you don't notice anything during your normal swabbing, playing and dis/assembly procedures don't worry about it.

Cracks can happen at any time, to any age instrument.

Prudent prevention is always recommended, but cracks are also partly determined by the quality of the billet of grenadilla your clarinet was made from.

Inspection (daily, weekly, monthly) of your clarinet is something one should always do to head off any serious, unexpected problems...GBK
