The TONYS are on TV tonight on CBS - Broadway shines:
At 7:15 EST, TonyAwards.com Video Webcast, will present 6 awards, followed by a 2 hours CBS nationwide broadcast of the entire TONY awards ceremony.
I hope this will be of some interest to those of you who follow the Broadway music scene.
There are, at the best of times, about 200 of us employed as full time musicians on Broadway. It's a musically rich life, with many benefits. The musical camaraderie is amazing, and you make friends last a lifetime.
I've been at it for almost 30 years, and the TONY awards help all of us look back and forward to the industry that has helped many of us as professional musicians.
Tune in, it's a treat, and you may get hooked on Broadway too!

HI Bnatural:
I did not play the TONYS tonight, although I have played for them in past years. The TONY band is made up of many of Broadway's finest musicians. Some are currently working on Broadway, others are not. It is a full size orchestra, larger than most pit orchestras, usually 30-35 players, as many as the current scores require.
It's an honor to play the TONYS, and it also pays quite well!

JJM - I understand an Aussie chap did very well playing Peter Allen (his name quite escapes me) - "Boy from Oz" ... go figure, someone north american!! Wow, there is life "outside the square". - I jest, somewhat.

THE BOY FROM OZ is, in fact, the great Aussie actor, Hugh Jackman.
Check him out on Broadway before he leaves in September, or go see his latest flick, VAN HELSING, he's great!

Just want to add as usual that the Tony production was the most professional of all the awards shows this year. No major musical gaffs, no microphones and in-ear monitors fizzling out in front of a live TV audience (no wardrobe malfunctions -- although SJP came close...). Proof again that Broadway is king when it comes to live performance. And of course, the LIVE orchestra cooked!
