Does anyone know of any techs in the northwest region of the United States who have solid skills on the Bass Clarinet? Alaska would be preferable, but I know my chances of finding one up here are slim to none. Also, what about in New Mexico or Texas, as I visit both states two months of every year. Aside from knowing someone who can do solid work on my own instruments should the need arise, I'd like to get a set of 6 Bass Clarinets that belong to my local high school band worked on, as they are getting rather old, and wear and tear has gotten to them all. Though I doubt the school district would be willing to pay for a complete overhaul/restoration on even one, some solid repairs and cleaning wouldn't be too ridiculous to ask for, I don't think.

If you visit NM or TX, why not take a "side trip" to Illinois and visit with Walter Grabner? For repair or restoration by someone who is also a skilled performing artist, you can not (IMHO) do any better.

Hi, Igloo Bob -
John Butler lives and labors in Texas. I've heard that he's very good and he's a BB Sponsor, last time I looked. Give 'im a jingle.

Though I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it all the way to Illinois, I will certainly look them both up. Much thanks to you both.

Any chance of heading through Idaho? Blue Rider in Meridian has some awesome techs there. They've done superb work on my Selmer 37, and that's not an easy beast to handle. It helps that a few of the people there play bass clarinet, so they know the idiosyncrisies.

Thanks all. I had no plans of going through Canada, but after this, it may be worth it to cross the great white border just to check things out.
