I'm looking to buy a new reed case.
I have seen cases that keep the reeds flat against glass and ones that have crystals to absorb the moisture, but not both.
Are there any that have both, which are easily available in the UK?
If not, which type is better?

I've had both...
I currently use a Wiseman glass-bottomed case, but I used to have a Vandoren plastic clip, with the crystals you have mentioned.
Personally, I'm a glass fan. Beside the fact the Wiseman holds more than twice as many reeds (errr, and is three times the price...) I do genuinely believe I get less warped reeds with this case than I did with the vandoren.
To be honest, I'm not sure if you want all of the moisture drawn out of your reeds anyway.

I was told that the crystals are designed to draw out some of the moisture but to keep the reeds slightly moist.
I'm really confused as to which is the best.

My reeds got moldy in the vandoren case that uses the crystals. Haven't had that problem with any other method. I currently use the vandoren "holds 8 reeds" case but am starting to believe it allows the tip corners to warp. Still looking for the "best" solution

fwiw, i have seen numerous students (dozens) who end up with mouldy reeds when using this vandoren case. so many that i now tell them to avoid that brand like the plague. i start beginning students on a plastic vito reed guard, and then later, when they're older and less clumsy, let them move to a different type if they want.

Ok so Dilutis has a case that ++Humdifies ++reeds
And Vandy++ dessicates ++them, and has fine ribs on the surface .
And the others put them on a glass unribbed surface
Some folks store reeds on glass with the flat surface of the reed against the glass
Others advocate initially placing curved side down then flipping them.
Occurs to me that reedology methods are more variable than oenology methods. I'll drink to that.

yes, Bob, i have the same case, i think it makes them warp too, b/c u have to push them against the indentions, so part of the reed goes in the indentions and parts don't, its really annoying

I think my choice of reed case will be Roger Garrett's. After looking around on his site a few minutes ago, I realized it seems to be about the same as a wiseman case (as far as capacity and basic premise goes), however is less expensive, AND you can request whatever wood you like. From oak, to maple, to rosewood, to (probably going to be my choice) aromatic cedar. Then my reeds will all smell GREAT (instead of smelling like day old saliva. Yuck.)

[EDIT]basic price at time of writing this post is $25 with $5 shipping for oak and maple. Special wood means special order which probably means special price, but still, compare that to $35 for a wiseman case and you'll probably STILL make out.
As for when I'll be getting one, well, my birthday is coming up over the summer so I'm making my 'clarinet product wish-list' as we speak. That way my friends/family can just take a look at a copy of the pre-printed list of clarinet stuff that I want (and cross-reference them with places to order them from, whether it be WWBW or a certain website/mail order catalogue) and just pick and choose what to get me, how many want to go in on the gift, etc. That way they can be satisfied knowing that I will REALLY like whatever they get me, and I'll be satisfied getting some of the stuff I need. Everyone wins! (Well, mostly me since it'll be MY B-day!)
