I hope this question doesnt sound too dumb but in the Weber Concertino for clarinet how do you finger eb and d in the chamaleau register? Isnt E as low as a Bb clarinet goes? Thanks.

Are you looking at the clarinet part or the piano part.... the piano part often has the clarinet in concert pitch, which would include low Eb and D

Just a thought...

Yes, you are correct - the lowest note is a chalameau E. I'm faily positive that there are no notes below E in the Weber Concertino. You may be reading the music incorrectly.

What bar number are you looking at, so we can check it out?

Hey,

Someone's found the basset clarinet version of the Weber concertino!

You don't have the original of the Mozart concerto in your attic by any chance do you?

Thanks for your replys. I am reading the clarinet part, not the piano part which is below the clarinet part. Its on Pg. 3, last staff, last measure, the first note is 4 ledger lines below the staff which would be D! How could this be played on a Bb clarinet? There are other D's and also Eb's in the piece. Was I sold the basset version of the Weber Concertino or is it something else? It is written in Eb I believe which flats A,B & E. Any opinion is much appreciated.

The Bb clarinet part should have 1 flat in the key signature.

If the clarinet part has 3 flats in the key signature, it is a non-transposed part and must be read a step higher...GBK

I am happy GBK that someone could clear this up for me. I bought this version at a music store in upstate New York. I am still confused as to why they specified clarinet and nothing else so I still have no clue as to why it wouldnt be transposed if it was written for the clarinet. I have just returned from the music store and ordered another version specifically for the Bb clarinet which hopefully will be transposed. I will also attempt to play the version I have one step higher. That may be a bit difficult for me. Thank you all for your responses.

avumba--one more possibility

You say that the music you are reading has the piano part on it? If you are reading from the score printed for the pianist, was there or was there not a separate part, maybe a pull-out, for the clarinetist to read? That part would be transposed. If there wasn't, perhaps the two got separated at the music store. Sometimes the pullout slips down when someone gets the piece off the rack at the store. If you did not get your part, check with the music store to see if they have any "stray" clarinet parts from the Concertino!

And in the same vein as clarinetwife's advice, if this new order of your doesn't work out, you can [link]www.virtualsheetmusic.com[/link], which does have the Concertino with Piano accomp. for $4.

The music store focuses more on the guiter and key board rather than wind instruments. But I will check it out again when my order for the Bb clarinet concertino comes in. Im thinking that the piece comes both transposed and untransposed But I dont see why it isnt always transposed unless its for the Bass clarinet! I will also check virtual sheet music. Thanks. AV

If the store you ordered from is the same store where you got the first copy, do call them. When I worked in sheet music we would find inside pages and solo pullout parts of items we had sold all the time, and it always amazed me how few people ever checked back to see if the rest of their music was there! As I suggested in my other post, the clarinet line is sometimes not transposed on the score, but it is transposed on the solo part. I have not seen a completely untransposed edition of this piece. It always bugs me a bit when the clarinet line is not transposed on the accompaniment part precisely because it makes that part less useful if the solo part does get lost!

Good luck!
