This is just out of curiousity...but does anyone out there in the clarinet world happen to be lucky enough to own on of these? I know someone who does and I'm wondering if there are any more out there in the world. I DON'T WANT TO PURCHASE ANYTHING. I just want to know if someone else has one.

I recall seeing a glass oboe in one of the "great houses" in England, possibly a Rothschild's [sp?], couldn't get close to it tho. I bet there are some in the major museums around the world! Likely mostly open-holed and non-repairable! Don

There are some Buffet B12s made of clear plastic.
There's one at a local music store on display.

Clear plastic sounds OK and although I am careful with my clarinet having a fragile glass one would scare the stuffing out of me. One thing though, can you see the condensation moving down the insides of these instruments? If so I think that would be kind of disgusting.

The condensation was my first thought too. "Clear" would be a novelty, but could be gross. Clear pepsi didn't last long either. Michael

Wouldn't glass be extremely heavy?

The positive side of a totally transparent clarinet is that some people would tend to pay more attention to keeping it clean on BOTH sides. Some folks just clean the outside where as the inside can look like an old sewer pipe.

I saw a picture recently of Giora Feidman playing a glass clarinet.

Feidman's crystal mouthpiece? I never saw him use anything else.

I have seen a glass clarinet advertised in a 1930s
catalog.
I saw a glass trombone used in a marching band back in
the 1970s. Don't recall the school.
I don't guess glass would weigh more than metal or plastic. I would think the walls would not be as thick.
