Funny story about the guy who had his Strad stolen.

I can recall 2 other stories of string players losing their instrument.

One guest soloist that came to play with the BSO this year that left his 3million dollar violin on a train. Luckily, someone caught him and gave it back.

Then a couple of years ago Yo-Yo Ma left his cello in a taxi, and the driver was nice enough to give it back.

I can't recall a famous clarinetist losing their clarinet lately. :-P (although I'm sure it has happened without me knowing, but it wasn't front page Yahoo news.)

clarinetists wouldn't have too much to worry about ... considering the price difference between strings instruments used by professional orchestral players (astronomical) and pro-clarinets ... (affordable).

Without music, the world would be grey, very grey.

When it comes to lost instruments, there are few more famous examples than the violin currently owned by Joshua Bell.

Slightly different but still of note...

Maxim Vengerov was invited to do a concert at the Royal Academy of Music in London. The concert was a fundraiser, to build a new museum. Vengerov was supposed to play on one of the Academy's Strads, ro raise a little more profile.

First rehearsal, Vengerov says:

"There is no way I can play on this violin, I am not comfortable with it"

So, the Academy top brass say:

"Well, use your own violin, but we'll still tell everyone it's our Strad"

Concert goes ahead...

Review in the Times the next day...

"Excellent concert, although Vengerov was clearly uncomfortable with the violin, why couldn't he have just sed his own??"
