Vandoren 56 Rue Lepic Clarinet Reeds (Strength 3)
I've seen these advertised as a 'harder' reed and was wondering if anyone is using them? How do they compare to the M. Lurie's and the Vandoren V12s?
These appear to be kind of pricey at around $35.00 for a box of 10 and was curious as to why........thanks..

I find them great on my old Buffet Crampon RC in combination with my favorite mouthpiece the Vandoren 5RV (Rue de la Lepic strength 4). But when I play on my new Leblanc Opus II with the same mouthpiece, I don’t like them. On the Leblanc I use the Vandoren V12 (also strength 4).
But if you search on this board you will see that there already many discussion about this subject….
Here is the link to compare the strength:

Tried em....they are ok but for my money V12 or FOF or Rigotti Gold just as good, cheeper, and slightly different character to each.
YMMV

Seems like I have seen Vandoren 56 Rue Lepics as low as $23-24 a box + shipping. No doubt the list price that Vandoren puts out is in the $30+ range.

I just switched to the Rue lepic. I never thought I would be willing to pay that much for a reed, but, for me these reeds play fantastic right out of the box. When I have to adjust them it is far less work than V12s or FOF. I use a 3.5 on my B40 and find them, contrary to the info on the Vandoren site, harder than V12s. You should be able to get these mail order for about $25 a box.

I have tried the # 31/2 and #4 56 Rue reeds from Vandy and must say I have very little respect for them ....they are quite nice at first and then become a bit mushy or soft. I also wish Vandoren would bring the quality control of the normal Blue Box reeds up....
I prefer the resonance of the Grey box way over the new 56 reeds...why not spend time trying to improve the normal reed instead of making designer reeds?

I've been using number 3's with an M30 mouthpiece and find they work just fine. Greater success than with V12's or traditional Vandorens. You should be able to find them for about $23-$24.
