Danse Bacchanale from Samson et Dalila

Has anyone played this piece with a concert band, not an orchestra? Some of my friends and I would like to do it, but we want some opinions on it first. Thanks!!!

I heard a band play it just last week. It transcribes well and sounds very good for band.

Our Tulsa Community Band, Dwight Dailey, Conductor has and we have tried to play an arrangement from S and D which includes the wild dance music, very demanding for oboe as I remember, we are blessed with a good one! Having a concert tonite, I'll get what info I can and pass it along here. Don

We played parts from Samson and Deliah in marching band. It was THE hardest show to march to b/c of the quick tempos, and the music was watered down but still very difficult. It did sound very nice though..... I'm not sure what place we got that year, but it was one of the better years we had.

We played Danse Bacchanale (for symphonic band) last year for UIL competition. It was sooooo fun to play! The slow part in the middle of the song takes forever to learn, but it sounds wonderful when you get it! We liked it so much that we played it for our spring concert, where the piccolo played got up and did a little belly dance! Have fun with it!

My community orchestra is playing it now. I love it. It's fast and challenging. I downloaded a midi recording of it to help me practice at home. It's at http://ftp.sunet.se/cma/cgi-bin/n.cgi/nep/4/ssbaccha.mid

it is sooo much fun to play in band as well as orchestra! The parts are incredibly demanded but so worth the extra practicing to be able to perform it! good luck! tree

We're playing Bacchanale this year. It's an awesome piece and coming along great. However, it's quite a challenge; even the third clarinet part (which I'm playing) is pretty hard. You might find the rhythms a little tricky, so work them out slowly first. Good luck and have fun!!
