what do you think about the vandoren 56 reeds?
i do not think they are a big deal... i find them very weak, but i'm playing with vandoren v12 n.º4 on a b45 mouthpiece. well, i think its more a comercial trick than a help. i'm afraid that now they will use the good reed material on these reeds and the v12 an traditional, will be (and are) degreesing in quality. but thats only my opinion.
will like to know what do you think

Are they called 56 reeds because that's how many you have to try to find a good one?
That's a HUGE improvement in Vandoren's usual rate!!
Never played on them...I'm just being silly.

I got one to try the other week, and even though it was only ONE single reed, I liked it in some aspects. I found it to be more secure in terms of tone - in areas I might usually feel insecure and about to squeak, I felt completely in control. However, I didn't like the sound they made. A little held back and just 'yukky' in general.
I might buy a box sometime and see how they go.

I quite like them - out of the 1/2 box I've tried so far I've only found one complete dud. I do find though that once they start to die they go quickly and fail to play well in really dry air conditioned halls. I'm tending to keep a combination of 56 and traditional reeds in my case as when one type isn't responding the other tends to.
