hello, i've been having some problems with my bass clarinet and i'm seriously thinking of selling it and getting a new one instead. the main problem is a 7 cm long crack. it was fixed but i think the buffet factory can do a better job and pretty much make it almost like new. also some of the mechanics are not so great. it was fixed and got to be much better but still no perfect. i can't buy a bass clarinet in my country so i'll fly to europe (probably france) to get it. i'd lke to know for how much do you think i can sell my ass clarinet, and is it a good idea to have an exchange (+money) with a store? it's a buffet 1193 from about 1998-99 i think, but not 100% sure. it has a really beautiful tone in my opinion but lacking something at the same time.
here are my questions.
how much do you think i can sell it for?
and more important, i really need people to recommend stores in france (paris is best i think), or even other countries in europe that sell buffet bass clarinets. if you have the website of those stores or the email that would be great.
thank you very much for anyone that helps me.
p.s. if anyone knows the web address to the buffet homepage that would also be great. i couldn't find it, and i tried through boosey and hawks and couldn't find it either.

Whoa there ! - are you sure the problems are insurmountable ? Might just need a wizard technician to look at it. In the correct hands a mediorce bass can come alive overnight.
If you are dead set on a new bass, and depending where you are in the world (I can't work it out from your email suffix) you might want to think about Amati in Czech Rep - several outlets-see their website. Personal experience would make me avoid the Prague shop which mainly deals in brass. Look up Amati on their website. I have an Eb clar from Amati and others on the board seem very pleased with their instruments. I have a new Buffet bass but a search for "Amati bass" will bring up a very comprehensive assessment of an Amati bass done a few months ago by a major contributor to the BB. (memory fails me)
E mail me if required.

Why not ask Dave Spiegenthal who haunts this board to look at it.

Well, the two (only ) two decent shops in Spain are REAL MUSICAL in Madrid and ERVITI in San Sebastian. The latter specialise in wind instruments, especially from French makers, have been around since 1875.
But in all these cases it is better to get in touch with the shop before you arrive and arrange for an appointment. This way they will have all the instruments ready for you to try out. At the moment the yellow pages services is not working,
but otherwise you can use fins their telephone numbers at
www.paginas-amarillas.es
type in Real Musical under name of business and select province Madrid
and Erviti and the province of Guipuzcoa
they both have a person in charge of woodwinds who makes all the arrangements.

I usually by in Feeling Musique in Paris.
try <www.feelingmusique.com>
they are located on 61 rue de Rome, Paris.
They have a wide choice of woodwind instruments, including Buffet, Selmer and Leblanc clarinets.
