I was looking up the Rigotti Golds and I had a few questions about them.

 1) I am going to try buying a box anyway, but just out of curiosity, what have been experiences with them?

 2) I am using a size #3 VD traditional right now: what size do you suggest? They have light, medium, and hard sizes for each so I am pretty lost right now...

 Thank you,
 MG

Medium #3 seemto me to be equivalent to #3 V12 Van Doren.

Contact Muncy Winds and they'll walk you through a comparison.

I would start in the middle, and then adjust with your next box.

FYI- I find EVERY reed playable without adjustment but these don't last long... I wonder if the two attributes are related?

somewhat brighter in sonority, resemble the standard Vd reeds, are balanced well out of box, a nice find. Seem a bit lighter to me than corresponding strengths of other brands.

I agree with all above comments --- I've used some on bass and contra clarinets with pretty good results.
