Does anyone know about the Allegra? It was presented to me as a high intermediate clarinet that has gold plated posts. I tried it and it sounded great and felt great too. How does it stand up against the
Buffet E-12 or 13? Resale value? Retails at 1090 and sells for 971. The Yamaha 34 retailed at a similar value, 1040, nickel keys - with a sale price of 655. The YCL 52 sold at 818. What do you think?

I had a Yamaha YCL-52 a few years ago. My particular horn was one of the non undercut models. Because it was not undercut, it was easier to play than the equivalent Buffet horn, but the tone/sound produced wasn't as good. It had great intonation (tuning) and it was very forgiving of student mistakes, such as sloppy fingering, bad embouchure, less than adequate air support, etc. It was a joy to play and it was a high quality horn. The keywork was first rate. The wood shed some of its coloring from the inside of the bore and stained my white carpet. Apparently, the laquer was water soluble. A professional carpet steam cleaner machine picked up the stains.
I believe that today's Yamaha high end intermediate horns are undercut, yielding better tone, but making them a little more challenging to play. That's the tradeoff with undercut tone holes. I am intrigued by the Allegra offering, more out of curiosity than anything else. If the Allegra follows the same quality pattern that my old YCL-52 had, it should be a very good horn and a good value for the money.
I count Yamaha as one of the good brands of clarinet on the market today. That elite group of trusted, high quality brands of clarinet includes Buffet, LeBlanc, Selmer, and of course, Yamaha.
