bore size/hole tapers

Can someone please explain what difference bore size and tone hole tapering can make?
(such as: 'Tapered inset type with tapered undercut' compared to:
'Straight inset type with tapered undercut')
Don't most Bb clarinets come with a standard bore size?

Bore size is not standard; it is an important variable for clarinet manufacturers. On this site you will find descriptions of one manufacturer's models as an example of how bore size can vary: http://www.selmer.com/htdox/clar4.htm

This is WAY too complicated to even begin to discuss in a forum like this. If you want to get some idea, buy and read Lee Gibson's book "Clarinet Acoustics". I had to read it through three times to begin to understand what he was saying.

Then tackle Benade's books on musical acoustics.
