So, they catch the guy, question him, let 'im go. Theft seems to be quite a profitable business these days, since it's little more than a slight inconvenience when one gets caught.

Boy...no kidding....fraud in the amount of 23 thousand plus and they just question him........

"So tell me Sigfried, what did you do with the money?".....

"Vell, I haf dis druk habit, and you know like...vell....I haf dis mail route, and all dees peoples, vell, day sent stuff to udder peoples dat I figgered dint need da stuff, so I took it......and buyed a colored TV and some really goot sh*t"

To be fair, what the article says is: "The man confessed to stealing the mail and was released after questioning". That doesn't imply that he won't be prosecuted. It merely means that they didn't find it necessary to lock him up before trial. Things may be different in the US, but in England, and (I imagine) also in Germany, it is common practice for suspects to be remanded (locked up) only if they are violent, likely to make a run for it, or likely to attempt to "influence" witnesses.
