I recently purchased a used Selmer Signet clarinet and sent it to a professional tech to have it repadded, corked and adjusted. While waiting the clarinet's return, I borrowed a friend's Selmer Signet Special for rehearsals. I cannot tell any difference between the two instruments. I had considered purchasing my friend's Signet Special, but now wonder if I am safe in keeping the Selmer Signet. I just play, and am certainly no authority on the differences in the differing models of clarinets. Would someone in this group tell me the difference in these two models? Thanks!

Debbie-
The Selmer Signet comes in three versions: the 100, the Special and another I can't remember. These were three levels of Selmer's intermediate clarinets, and are not currently made.
You need to compare the two in question, to determine if they are the same or not. Unless it has been worn away, the model's complete name is probably stamped somewhere on it.
I also have a Signet Special, which is the middle of the three versions. It is a nice instrument, but not a "Pro" model. I think either of the two you have would meet your needs until you gain enough experience to move up to a Pro model.
