By now, I feel the urge to confess one thing, though nobody urges me or anything.
I learn a lot from this BBoard and even 'take' some of the lessons and advices from here to put in my webpage((http://hompy.dreamwiz.com/dikkylucy). But I mark that it's from here.
If anyone who cliks the above URL will be surprized becuase it will be full of ..Korean (but you might care to look at the pictures)! So many of the postings are impossible for non-Korean speakers to read, except those where I copy and paste parts of the text from here.
I tell this because I'm afraid whether I infringe on something (..you know, anybody's copyright? ..even though it's a posting of this board). If that's the case, pls let me know.

Please make sure you ask the posters or owners of the material if you copy anything from here. I'll bet all of them would be honored to know that their ideas are being sent around the world.
Also, it might be nice to put a link back to the original post, too.

Personally, I'd never considered anything like this until today Clacclaws.
I assume, now that you bring it up, that anything posted on a bulletin board is put there for public consumption or whatever. If I felt something I had to offer was worthwhile enough to copyright, I certainly wouldn't broadcast it to the whole world via the Internet until I had the copyright to it, hahahahaha! (that'll be the day 
As Mark says, a permission note might be flattering but I find no reason why anyone would turn you down. Should you find anything of mine useful to you feel free to claim it.

While it is for public consumption, it's just like a book - you retain rights & ownership. No one is supposed to copy your words verbatim unless you give explicit permission.
In the US copyright is automatically given as soon as your words are "published". Whether or not posting on a BBoard is considered "publishing" has been decided differently in different courts at different times, but generally it is always good to err on the side that everything written and disseminated on the Web is copyrighted.

Then, something written (and posted?), published in other words, is automatically "copyrighted"? Of course, I suppose "posted" is the only way you have of dating something... proof of writing it first.
Then, is that "intellectual property" or something like that?
[I heard/saw the 'intellectual' thing, term, here I believe. I like it because it sounds so... 'brainy' - ]

Maybe it should be a rule of this BB that anything posted here is automatically under the licence to which Ken refers. Does US law allow this: so long as the BB is hosted in the US, I would assume that US law would prevail over the law of the country where the post originated.

I don't know ANYTHING about the legal system, but I'm sure that if you show some sort of disclaimer to the board members before they sign up (under the rules post or the like) maybe Mark can automatically designate all posts under this Creative Commons License. Plus, since he has the email addresses of the members, he can email out a notice noting the change in policy. Mark?

I cannot enforce nor do I want to enforce any type of licensing agreement for posters; Icould give you more details, but sufficei t to say that in some countries you cannot give away your rights no matter how hard you try.
I also actively search out sites that copy material from this one and make sure that they have asked permission from the author(s) of the material. I don't catch every one, and I'm sure all have been "innocent" in thinking that the copy is innocuous, but nevertheless you can't just copy things with out permission.
I get requests all the time from people who want to copy information from the Web pages here to their own web pages - which I find heartening. The RIAA lawsuits probably have at least made people think about intellectual property rights even if nothing else. The answer always is:
"I do not own or have assigned to me any of the copyrights for material published on my site other than works of my own authorship. All material published on the site is with express permission of the authors.
If you wish to copy the information you must ask permission from the author(s) of the material.
Short, attributed excerpts which adhere to the US "Fair Usage" exclusion are allowed."
