Hello everyone,
I'm doing a survey, and I know this board would be a good place conduct this survey. There will be a list of clarinet solo pieces below and if you could just write which one you like more, (not funner to play), just which piece is your favorite and one reason why.
1. Concertino for Clarinet (Weber)
2. Concerto No 1 (Weber)
3. Concerto No 2 (Weber)
4. Clarinet Concerto in A (Mozart)
5. Premeir Rhapsodie (Debussy)
6. Clarinet Concerto (Stamitz)
7. Sonata for Clarinet and Piano (Bernstein)
Thank You

From the list it's (in order)
Mozart
Debussy
Weber's (joint 3rd)
Stamitz (would be higher if played on a period instrument)
Bernstein
why wasn't the Nielsen included or the Brahms Sonatas or any English clarinet works???

I agree w/ the Premiere Rhapsodie. I think I've posted it here before, but I've wanted to play this since I first heard it when I was probably 15. I'm not sure why, but I just fell in love with it. I'm finally getting to accomplish my goal and play it for a recital coming up in May. My teacher usually picks out solos for me, and I don't always like them so I don't practice as much as I should. But she hasn't had any trouble getting me to practice this piece!

1) Nightmare
2)Concerto for Clarinet
Both by Artie Shaw.....I know neither are on your list....but why must the list be only classical? Oh...if you must....
Mozart K622

For me, right now, Debussy is my top choice. It's so dreamy that I can lose myself in the musicality of it more than any of the others. I would say the Brahms Sonata #1 would be my second choice. Nielsen has some absolutely gorgeous moments, and on the whole it's an entertaining piece... but it wouldn't make it into my very top choices.
